I stayed at this campground near the Switzerland border for over 2 weeks. Not solely because it was beautiful, but I did a hike/jog up to 8300 feet. I started with the intention of doing a short hike, but it turned out to be a long hike to the ridge that was a mile higher than the campground. I was tired of this hiking idea by the time I reached the top, of course, so I jogged most of the way down. Apparently, that was stupid. I could barely walk for a whole week after (lucky that I had enough groceries to last a full week here in the middle of nowhere.
After I recovered, I did a couple more rides and another hike. I think the Alps are beautiful, but in a brutal way. The landscape is all sharp angles and severe elevation changes—not the best terrain for a bike…well, unless you are a masochist… Compared to the Pyrenees, the Alps have much more traffic, more residents, and more tunnels (I no likey!). They have, however, more greenery, making for better scenery.
