It's now Nov 24th, and we arrived home yesterday - but our blog is not complete, as we run out of time on holiday. We'll hopefully complete it in the next couple of days !!!

Now, back to the 17th......

We are now staying at the Posada Al Dila, a small hotel in Punta Ballena which is a 15 minute drive from Punta Del Este. Out hotel is just great. The room and the decor is lovely, with a purple theme and high wooden beams. It has a nice LCD TV with a nice system plus a stereo - the best of the holiday. The room also has real fire place (although it's not too hot for it) and a balcony with great views over the bay. Outside there are lovely gardens and a nice pool with a small bar, and bar stools in the water - although it's not open yet as it's early in the season. Quite a lot of people checked out yesterday, but now it's really quiet here - about 6 people maybe. The max could be 28.

Punta Del Este is a smart city, with miles of beaches and a large peninsula - probably one of the biggest beach resorts in South America. It's full of modern apartment blocks and hotels. The height of the season is December and January, so it's now quiet here which is nice.

Another great thing about our hotel is that they serve breakfast until 12.30, so we had a nice lay in. We had breakfast on the terrace outside, with beautiful views over the bay. The breakfast was also one of the best of the holiday - served with criossants, fruit salad, fresh orange juice, scones, jam, ham and cheese, tea or coffee and a different cake each day - very filling.

After breakfast we decided to go and sit by the pool - after changing we went out, only to find it was clouding over, but it was still warm. Anyway, it clouded over more and rained - great, this is where we're supposed to get our suntan.

For the rest of the day, we went for a walk of the local beach, drove into Punta Del Este and had a look around and an evening meal. Driving in, we could see lightning near the peninsula and it looked stormy out to sea. Later that night when we got back we were treated to an amazing lightning show miles out to sea - almost constant sheet lightning, which had a orange glow in the distance. It was as wide as the eye could see. The storm came closer and the wind got frightenly strong on the balcony. I secured the shutters and we went to bed hoping for some blue sky in the morning.
