Another late start. This afternoon we headed to Saturnia, Approaching the village coming down the hill you look onto a waterfall of hot sulphur springs on the side of the road. We parked the car on the roadside alongside about 20 others and headed through the fields. The pools are formed in rock terraces with the hot water water flowing over. We changed into our togs, hesitantly, trying to melt into the bank while 50 or so others were soaking in the pools close by and watching those arriving out of the corner of their eyes. It was wonderfully warm, the water a little gritty although that didn't worry us. We soaked the afternoon away and then had a picnic on the banks watching others.
Dinner at Maria’s again tonight. Similar first few courses followed by wild boar, pork and lamb. Lemonchello, grappa and dessert wine bottles on the table at the end of the meal to soak your biscotti in. The girls are sipping a very little red wine at dinner and feeling grownup. Genevieve mixes hers with water and then gulps it down.
