Well I made to an island called Ilha de Santa Catarina where Florianopolis is located.  The town is half on the mainland and half on the island and the population is split as such at around 322,000 people.  I had booked a hostel on the Southern part of the island about 20 minutes from town at a beach called Praia da Armacao.  When I showed up the hostel was a dump.  It looked nothing like the place on the internet.  It was just a room with 25 beds crammed in.  I was too tired to go anywhere else and decided it would work for one night.

There really wasn't anyone around the hostel (anyone that a really spoke English anyways) so I decided to go down to the beach.  The beach here is absolutely breathtaking.  It is more of a local beach and surf hangout.  There was an overcast that afternoon and it was getting late so I pulled a spot up under an umbrella and started to have a couple of cold ones.

A storm blew in so I made my way to a little covered beach bar and ended up riding the storm out there.  A few hours later I decided to make my way back to the hostel.
When I made my way back to the hostel they were setting up for a band to play at the restaurant/bar.
It was some Reggae band and all of the local hippies were out in full effect.  Our hostel is the only place to go in the little beach town.  The outdoor bar filled with mainly locals and the foreigners from the hostel and a bunch of hippies.  I ran into a couple of people from the hostel that in Rio and was just hanging out catching the show.  The hippies smoked a whole bunch of weed during the show.  The guys at our table had to keep loaning them their lighters to spark them up.

The next day I thought about checking out of the hostel and going somewhere else, but the weather was just too good to spend the day in transit.  A couple of guys and me went to the beach and surfed for a couple of hours and just hung out at the beach.  That night they had karaoke at the bar.  Trying to be a budget traveler, I went to the store to buy some liquor and mixers instead of paying $1 for beers all night which can get expensive.  I have found something better than the TAAKA.  I bought a liter of vodka $2.96 R and a 2 liter of sprite for $6.60 Reals.  Which is about $3.30 American.  I think I just cut my budget in half now.  Although I've only been able to find bottles elsewhere for $7.50 Real ($3.75 American).  We met up with some French Canadians and partied with them and some Irish girls.  The Irish girls had been robbed 3 times since they had started their vacation 3 weeks ago.  Although I picked two of their purses up that night and had to hand them back to them because they would go hang out somewhere else and just leave their purse on the ground.

The next day Chris and another Canadian guy Graham that I had been hanging out with decided to rent a car and drive around and find a better place to stay.  We ended up renting a Pousada (condo) in Barra da Logoa.

We got a nice place just off the beach for $100 Real ($50 per night) which is about the same we were paying for our dorm hostel.  While we were sitting out on our balcony we happened to see the French Canadians that we had met at the hostel bar in Armacao.  They came up and hung out on the balcony for awhile with our neighbors and us.  To the left of us are two Swedish girls, an English girl, and a Norwegian guy that stayed in the hostel in Armacao with us.  To the right are 3 Israeli girls who are not hard to look at.  We talked the Israeli girls into going out with us as the neighbors to our left were too far gone because they were playing drinking games.  They started off on beer and ran out and were too lazy to go to the store so they kept playing with cheap wine.  Well long story short we didn't get anywhere with the girls.  Only one of them was drinking (she had two drinks all night).  They wanted to come home and the club was dead anyways because it was either a Monday or Tuesday night (I've kind of lost track of days by now).  The French Canadians and I grabbed some beers from the pousada and headed to the beach to see if anything was going on.  It looked like a party so we tried to hit it up.  We couldn't talk to anyone there so we turned it in around 4am.  The bad thing is that hardly any of the pousadas have air conditioning so I've been getting up around 8 in the morning sweating.

One day we decided to go do some sand boarding.  The Canadians snowboard all of the time so they were stoked about it.  I've never snow boarded, but I can wake board so I figured it would be alright.  We got our boards and made it up the Joaquina dunes and took a few runs.  It was quite a bit easier than I thought it would be.  The straps they have for your feet are just a little Velcro strap and you don't have anything to hold your heal in so it is pretty hard to carve on the sand.  You pretty much just go straight and try to turn a little bit.  It was a lot of work for what you got out of it.  I kind of lost interest in about 30 or 40 minutes.  I was covered in sand and just wanted to get the stuff off of me.  We then went up to Praia da Joaquina and jumped in the water and ate dinner.  We met a couple of Americans and some more Canadians and hung out with them and drank some beers.

We've pretty much have just been trying to hit a different beach each day.  Today we actually went downtown to check some of Florianopolis out.  The Canadians are leaving tomorrow and I still haven't made up my mind what I want to do yet.  There are still a few beaches here that I would like to see.  I will make my mind up in the morning and decide what I'm going to do.

What I like...
You know what I like about your posts is that each one has the phrase 'absolutely breathtaking' in it. I've NEVER heard you use that phrase. Glad to see that the bannana hammock wearing dudes are 'rubbing off' on you. I keep expecting you to call them 'pretty schweet'.

I don't envy you the fact that you're staying up until 4/5/6 AM every night cause I'm old and because I'm sure you're pretty active most of the day, but the trip is looking pretty fun and it looks like you're enjoying yourself. Keep it up, holmes.

I'm going to bring you a bannana hammock back Rasch. They are only $7. What color would you like? You would look 'breathtaking' in one!

Maybe other people want a banana hammock...
What's the deal with banana hammocks these days. Are they the new boxer briefs?? Don't act like you don't know, Jondell. I've got pictures of you wearing a leapard print banana hammock performing a strip tease to a strange girl at a party. There goes your political career.

Re: Maybe other people want a banana hammock...
Terry, you know I could never have a political career. They probably won't even let me build buildings for them.

Re: u just can't stay away from the jewish girls
I saw the Aggie deal and and they were upset because they wanted to be the first Jewish girl that I had pissed on, but were upset that I had already been there and therefore no luck. Stay out of the limos unless there are strippers involved.
