So today was my day off and also another of the pick up points, for the packages of maps and extra equipment. So dawdled over to the Post Office, after a bit of a lay in, followed by a skinny latte in one of HB's many little cosmo-yorkshire coffee shops.

The sun was beaming down and it all felt a little surreal, no heavy pack, lovely little market squares, great weather.....and all in Yorkshire. The county really is a little bit different from the rest of England. Whether it's just the size of the place and the wide open dales and moors, or the strong Viking heritage or just the bloody minded Freddy Trueman / Jeremy Clarkson characters dotted about the place, I'm not entirely sure......but it always makes me think of Texas, and how that State sits with the rest of the US. West Yorkshire just on its own, is Enlgand's largest county. You just have to stand at the top of one of it's many valleys, with electricity pylons striding across the great open expanses, to feel the place really is "grand". For a county with such a strong sense of self, you could expect a brisk welcome, but it really is quite the opposite and I've alway felt quite at home with the Yorkies. Hardy, the landlord at the B&B, walked through HB 5 years ago while on holiday, and liked it so much, he moved here!

After grabbing my new set of maps and a few domestic chores with the equipment, had a nice little siesta and watched some of the football. All in all, a very relaxing day!

It's like your children talking about holidays, you find they have a quite different memory of it from you. Perhaps everything is not how it is, but how it's remembered.
