Salar de Uyuni - After the two days in the nearby National Park, we arrived at the edge of the Uyuni Sal Flats. These are the largest and highest salt flats in the world. The first night we stayed at a hotel made from salt.

The nest day we traveled into the heart of the salt flats. The area is made up of blindingly white salt, with the odd hill every so often. Because of the areas flatness and whiteness its famous for taking lots of creative pictures using the strange perspective that you get.

After a few hours of flatness we visited an island covered by cactus.

From the cactus island it was a short drive to the other side of the salt flats. Here there are a few villages which make there living from mining salt and the tourists.

As we were returning back to Chile we stayed for a couple of hours at the largest town in the area called Uyuni, and then got in another jeep for the return journey. This involved another 9 hours of driving, with an overnight stay. We eventually got back after two breakdowns the next day, and I was happy not to have the thought of having to sit in a jeep for a while.
