Cappadocia - I met up with the Aussies in Goreme, the main town of the Cappadocia region. Cappadocia is really unique and ended up being my favourite part of Turkey by a long way. The area is made of lots of strange rock formation, deep valleys, and is home to a troglodyte society dating back to the middle ages. This society has left lots of caves and Churches cut into the rock.
The first experience was finding a room, or a cave to stay in. Lots of the traditional caves homes have been turned into hotels so we each bagged ourself a cave for a couple of nights, with its own stone bed.
Over the next few days we explored the surrounding countryside. This included red valleys, and strange chimney type rock formations.
The area has also a number of underground cities which were used as protection in times of war, and could be lived in for months at a time. We visited the deepest one which is eight stories deep.
From here Lance and Sarah were heading to Syria. I headed back to Istanbul for my flight back to the UK.
