I'm looking forward to another day of touring, hopefully we'll find a tour to join so we can learn some history. Yesterday we walked down to Charles Bridge, crossed the Vltava and ventured up to the Prague castle. I've posted some of the pictures I took along the way. There is just too much to see. The archetecture is beautiful. We found the Kolkovna Bar and Restaurant for dinner. The food was the best I've had in Europe. I had the Pilsner Goulash. It came with potato dumplings and potato pancakes. I miss that goulash!

And of course we had the local beer; Pilsner. I haven't been disappointed in local beers yet!

We're staying in the Intercontinental. It's a couple blocks to the Old Jewish Ghetto and one block to the Vltava (the river). Walking distance to almost everything.

Well we found a tour group to join - "The Famous Pubs walk Cheers". Did you know that American Budweiser is nothing like the real thing? Neither is our Pilsner. Our tour visited 3 pubs, included a beer at each and dinner at the second one. I had the roasted pork neck with bacon dumplings and cabbage. They sure know food in the Czech Republic!! George was our tour guide; a bio-engineering student who tours on the weekends. Very nice young man. Our tour companions were delightful; so nice to meet other people! We had a young lady from New York (really calls Chicago home), a young couple from the Maryland just finishing college (Architecture), a couple of British ladies - widows who have been friends for over 30 years, and a couple of Japanese-Swedish ladies who have been friends for over 40 years - one of which was celebrating her 70th birthday. Everyone was very friendly and interesting.

We learned a little Prague history from George. The first pub is named The Executioner as a tribute to the poor guy who executed 27 Protestants in 1621. He was also a protestant, and frequented this pub. The painting on the wall is of the execution. The area under the Astronomical Clock is where it all happened.

The second pub is famous because it's the original place this famous cartoonist started his art (mostly obscene cartoons).

The third and final pub was a Budweiser pub. Each pub seems to specialize. The first was Pilsen, second Havas (?), and third Bud. All good.

Tomorrow: off to Oslo at noon on Czech Airlines....

Nicest thing...
about organized tours are the great people that you meet, with similar interests.
