So the much anticipated other Singapore story...sorry it's taken a few days, but Sydney interrupted proceedings somewhat, as did much needed sleep. Before I begin however, I do need you to please keep an open mind, and let me tell you if you thought that story about the Yorkshire woman that was bought up by monkeys was unbelievable, well you ain't seen nothing yet!

Right then, there we were at the top of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel, on the outdoor observation deck, 57 stories above Singapore, and taking the obligatory photos. Of course, Alex has more gear than most and was busy attaching expensive glass filters to the front of his lens to diffuse the sunlight, or something more technical than that. Anyway as he was leaning over the edge with said filter, a girl asked me to take her photo. Not wanting to chop her head off, I called for Alex...

'Alex, Alex, can you take this picture?'

He didn't reply so I shouted a little louder in my loving wifey way...

'ALEX!!!'

At which point he spun quickly around, and in doing so his expensive, made-to-measure lens filter caught on the the fence and plummeted towards the main expressway below. We all gasped as it fell  through the air, breath held, waiting for the sound of glass splintering and brakes screeching as it hit the ground. But instead, as we watched, it caught on a random gust of wind and floated, yes floated, towards the roof of the shopping centre opposite, landing with a perfect gentle bump.

I promptly burst into tears, proclaiming dramatically that it was all my fault that Alex had lost his filter, and how would he cope without it for the rest of the trip, as these things need to be ordered. Although he tried to reassure me that it was okay, and he was just happy that it didn't land on a car windscreen, I was inconsolable...at least until we headed over to the bar. Once I had a beer in hand, and had calmed down, we began to formulate a plan to rescue the lens, or at least what was left of it from the roof.. Perhaps we could climb up there somehow? Bouyed by a further glass of beer, off we went to the shopping centre opposite, and lo and behold there was a path around the roof. We began trotting round, more hopeful with each step closer we took. We could smell victory, but alas the path stopped suddenly about 59 feet short with a padlocked gate, and security cameras...

Well the rest, cannot be shared, but let's just say Alex earned his double O status and we got the filter glass and holder back all in one piece. And would you believe it after a fall of 57 floors, landing on concrete, it was only slightly scuffed and still worked perfectly? I mean it's just impossible to believe right? Even more incredible just a few hours later Dad dropped his electronic notebook, onto a carpet from a height of 3 foot and the screen completely shattered...oh well, win some, lose some I guess!
