Where I stayed
Uncle Michele's House

Flag of Italy  , Friuli-Venezia Giulia,
Friday, August 27, 2010

I'm going to write about today today, because I was going to keep going in date order, but my brain hurts so this is easier. I came by train from Venice on Friday, Uncle Michele (my mum's uncle) picked me up from the station in Udine. He and my (great) aunt Danila live on the 4th floor of an apartment block just out of the city. The town is about the size of Shepperton from what i gather.
Michele makes a point of not knowing a single word in English, but the whole time I was in Venice i practised really hard in my head to remember a few important words and phrases, and we got on ok in the first few hours. I presented him with the gluten free pasta i had brought with me and he said that he'd rather die than eat it, but he was happy to cook it for me :) His pasta sauce is amazing, very simple, but amazing.
Danila speaks a little English, but mostly is easier to talk to as she listens erally carefully and helps me where i stumble in Italian. They're so cool, very stylish, i love the way they think and live and eat.
Their son stefano works in English, and we went to dinner with him and his partner and it was a bit bad that i basically only spoke to him the whole night, but there was so much i wanted to ask and clarify and learn from him. Their other son Alessandro has moved to the Phillipines to marry his girl and they now have a little girl Michaela. She's so cute! They communicate on Skype every day.
We rode bikes around on Sat, and ate lots again, and Sunday we went to an old castle / monastery in the mountains, and looking for a restaurant after we accidentally drove into Slovenia. That doesn't often happen to one in Australia :) I had local wild boare and polenta, mmm so good. Best food of the trip!
Last night (Sun) i went to Stefano's partner's mother's place for dinner with their family. They lived in Cuba for 20 years and so all speak Spanish, and so i was answering questions half in italian half in spanish and we were all laughing, but damn that can mess up ur mind! <i have slept about 12 hours every day since i got here. I can feel the brain cells filling up!
So pretty much Italy is amazing, and i'm a bit sad to be leaving tomorrow, except that i'm leaving for Barcelona, so not too sad :P
Ciao a tutti!
