I returned to Paris from Versailles and found that I could get a train to Chartres within 15 minutes. I went outside the station to a crepe vendor and got my late lunch. The train wasn't very crowded and it took about an hour.
I walked to the cathedral and saw that a wedding was wrapping up. While waiting, I walked into a stained glass shop and fell in love with the work. Chartres Blue is a vibrant blue watercolor every beginner must buy. That color was made famous from the stained glass in this cathedral.
Nine times out of 10, I found some sort of scaffolding on structure I wanted to photograph, and this was no exception. It was such a struggle sometimes to find the perfect shot to eliminate as much of this as possible from my photos. Even worse was if I had to work around grafitti. C'mon people... this is Europe!
Chartres was beautiful, but I've seen so many magnificent cathedrals that I enjoyed the stained glass shop even more.
I headed back to Paris after about 90 minutes. Once back in town, I hunted down some groceries for dinner. I scored with a bottle of St. Emillion wine for 6 euros!! I was able to use some wifi in a shopping mall until they kicked me out when they were closing. It was such a full day and I needed a drink.
