Where I stayed
Today we did a killer hike. By killer, I mean that tomorrow we will see who complains about their aches and pains more. We went from 4893 feet to about 6500 or so. The entire round trip was 7.5 hours.
When we had a break in the clouds, the scenery was magnificent! Due to the heavy cloud coverage, it wouldn't have been worth it to go all the way to the top of the Schilthorn. We did make it to Rotstockhutte and stopped at a mountain hut (on their opening day) for soup, sausage, bread and tea with some of the other hotel guests we met the night before.
Along our journey, we walked under a waterfall, viewed a glacier, heard about a dozen avalanches and actually saw one. The path was challenging for such an amateur hiker - narrow, steep, wet, and muddy. However, I didn't fall or hurt myself so I consider it a success! Pat didn't like the descent, and 2 months later got the bad news that he tore his meniscus.
