On Saturday evening, we arrived into Manarola at about 9 p.m. Our hostel was a long, steep, uphill climb so I carried the two small bags and Pat kindly rolled the backpacks. That life insurance almost had to pay out by the time Pat got the bags to the top of the hill!

It was really a nice hostel at the top of Manarola. Once we checked in, we grabbed a very late dinner on the waterfront: salad, mussels and fresh sardines in a tomato sauce with potatoes dripping in olive oil (it is one of the things to try here, so we did). I also had the most fantastic dessert – a gelato topped with nuts and amaretto. We just barely made it back to the hostel before lock down at 11.
