Was really not expecting much with Venice. Had heard it was dirty, overpriced and cheesy. So when I walked out of the train station onto the canal I was shocked to see how beautiful the city is. Almost had a little tear! Venice is indeed a tourist centre, but rightly so because its amazing. I love wandering around the little streets, getting lost (sometimes a bit worrying when you cant find your way out and theres no street signs eek!), people and gondola watching, climbing over bridges and eating gelato (advice, dont try the whisky gelato...just dont).
Did the touristy thing and went to san marcos square, which was lovely but crammed. Also they have stupid fountains that are basically just puddles of water on the ground. Apparently its art, but when you can't see where you're going due to the hordes of people, its also a major cause of wet socks.
Visited the islands of Morrano (home of glass) and Burrano (home of lace). Didnt buy anything but lvoed wandering around Burrano and its colourful houses.
The only downside here is that it can be frustrating to see so many star crossed lovers romancing each other when I'm wandering around alone. Better get used to it though, as Im heading to Paris after Italy. That bitterness aside, I really do like this city. Onto Florence tomorrow!
