Arrived in Bologna after a bumpy ride on the ferry from Croatia. Didnt expect much of the city..it was rainy and a bit empty when I got there. Staying in a budget hotel, I wasnt meeting anyone. So I did something a little crazy for me. I joined couch surfing. Not to stay with people but just to meet someone from the area. And did I ever.
I messaged a girl called Giulia and within 5 mins she had replied and said she was going out that night and to meet her in the main square. So I did, and had an amazing night! Her and her friends showed me around the town, gave me a history lesson and took me for aperitivo (buy a drink and eat amazing nibbles for free!) and the most amazing gelato ever. Then we watched a concert in the main square.
Then today I hung out with Kristina, a mate of Giulias from Serbia, all of today, eating spaghetti Bolognese (of course), and wandering around town.
All I can say is wow! Im definitely going to use couch surfing again to meet locals. I found it really cool and not scary at all.
