Flag of Spain and Canary Islands  , Madrid,
Thursday, July 3, 2008

After spending a long time on the plane and even longer (2 hours!) on the Madrid metro system, I checked into my hostel and checked out the country of Spain. Ended up hanging with a Liverpudlian (is that what you call their kind) and a Melbourne chick who could speak fluent Spanish, very handy.

Ate a weird meal. We thought we were ordering tapas but turned out to be tapas on bread rolls covered in crisps. They were good, but not exactly what we expected. Then we headed out to a bar full of locals and ordered drinks (Jane taught me how to order beer and wine, very important). Some lovely spanish guys came up and talked to me and Ryan in English and to Jane in Spanish. We thought they were great, then they headed off. AND LEFT US WITH THE BILL!!! Gah, was only in spain for under 2 hours and got fooled by one of the oldest tricks in the book! Haha, we laughed about it though. Iīm just happy I havenīt been robbed (yet). I can deal with paying for their drinks and learning a valuable lesson.

So far, Spain is a million times cheaper than Dublin. Am planning on doing a bike tour of the city tomorrow, then checking out the massive gay pride parade this weekend, woot! No photos for now as I canīt quite work out the system in this net cafe.

hey, don't forget on your bike ride that Europe drives on the wrong side of the road (and don't cut vegetables on the same breadboard as raw chicken)! x
