Bec's place

Spent the second day in Dublin walking around the lovely laneways with Bec, drinking the only decent coffee in town (apparently). Had dinner at her house with her friends Sam (from Tassie), Michelle (from Melbourne) and Sea Bass (real name Sebastian from France). Much laughter and fun was had.

The next day, I walked through the very working class suburb of Stoneybatter, where Bec lives, to Trinity College. We did a walking tour, which wasn't the best, then made it to the Book of Kells exhibition. The Book of Kells is reproduction of the four gospels, created by monks hundreds of years ago, and famed for its intricate celtic artwork. Unfortunately, you could barely get close to them, due to the number of tourists swarming around, and the exhibition itself was quite poorly put together. Oh well.

That night we went for tapas in town, and then headed out for a pub crawl in Temple Bar (which is actually a suburb, as well as an individual bar). Apparently Dublin is the European home of stag and hen nights, and I counted over 10 hen do's in the space of an hour. They put so much effort into their costumes (pirates, fairies, pink ladies) and have matching t-shirts with their names on them.

Am really enjoying the 'craic' in Dublin - everyone's very friendly, sociable and funny (and pretty drunk). There's always music and dancing somewhere and most people have a big smile on their faces.
