Headed off to Faith's house for lunch and more countryfication on Sunday. Was prewarned that it may be a little late coming, and, sure enough, we didn't eat until about 3pm. I made do with gin and tonics until then. It was beautiful food, well worth waiting for - lamb cutlets, veges just out of the ground and the most delicious merange for dessert. Leslie was dished a massive piece, and I snidely said, 'I'll have half of what she's having please'. Then as soon as I started eating, I asked for another serving. I think I've put on at least 100 kilos since I've arrived - have basically been eating my way around the UK.

Faith and Jim's place is amazing. Jim works as a garderner for a lord (yes, as in the ones that leap when it's Christmas time), and they rent one of his cottages. The views are unbelievable. I'm really running out of superlatives here, so have a look at the pics and you'll see what I mean. They're also a bit extreme in the pet department - 12 cats, 2 dogs, plus chickens and tortoises (which they breed).

Then off to Steve Pope's house in Wales. Another cottage - this one built in 1665. Am struggling to comprehend the history of these places - this cottage was built long before Australia was even discovered by the Western world. Went for a walk up over the hills and looked down on the green fields, sheep and forests. The sheep cracked me up - baa-ing noise they make sounds so fake, like someones just standing behind them making the noise.

Headed off for a massive drive back to London (for some reason, the Brits love to close their motorways down, then not provide directions of how the hell to get where you want to go) and crashed out at Mazza's and Steves, all ready for a trip to Brighton.

your Welsh travels
Hi Jo,
Enjoyed seeing the next phase of your journey after you visited us - Faith and Jim's place and Steve Pope's look quite something. I'm upgrading my technical abilities here. This afternoon I actually downloaded from my camera, and reviewed the pictures of you on the lawn here drinking Pimms, and now I'm signed up for TravelPod - though currently not going anywhere apart from Bristol next week. I'll know what to do when I really go on some proper travels. I think you left one of your socks behind - is there anywhere I can post it on to, or will you make do with matching up with other socks? Not the worst thing to leave behind. All the best for what you get up to next! It was great to meet you, and hope you will be back in Bristol sometime. Jane
ps Oh dear, will other people see what I have written? This is not top prose.
