For us this was the trip that we had been looking forward to the most whilst being in Australia.

We arrived in Port Douglas and checked into a campsite for a few days. We headed into the town to ivestigate which trip we wanted to do. There were so many on offer really ranging in prices. The weather had a big impact on our decision. It was quite windy when we arrived and the idea of being on a boat all day did not appeal (I get very sea sick). for a couple of days we kept an eye on the forecasts whilst deciding which boat trip to do. In the end we decided to go with 'quicksilver'. They had a massive boat that took you to a pontoon on the outer reef - where you spend all day snorkelling, diving or just sunbathing. It turned out to be the most expensive option but was worth it as I didn't get sick at all. We waited nearly a week to go and on the day of our trip the wind dropped to 10 knots which was perfect.

We really did have a great day. John did an intro dive which I got to watch most of from an underwater viewing platform and I just enjoyed the snorkelling. It all felt so safe and therefore we were able to enjoy it 100%.

Port Douglas is a great town. Quite up-market and very beautiful. We spent most of our time here not doing a great deal. We did go to a wildlife park where you have breakfast with the birds (sure that H&S would have something to say about that at home!!!). It was certainly very sad once we left here as we knew that it was time to settle down and do some work for a while. (its a hard life - we know!!)
