We woke up to a rainy morning and were heading to the airport. The queue for checking in was simply ridiculous however after the experience at the Madurai airport we were calm and continued to stay in the same queue.

Flight was on time and after arriving to Ende we took the taxi to the little village of Moni - we were not in the negotiating mood as the offered price was quite reasonable.

The fun started when we got to a bumpy bit and with lot of curves was like a never ending story and my stomach did not like this and the biggest fun was to stop in the middle of nowhere. We were not able to continue our journey as the road was blocked by stones due to the road works, so we had to wait about 30 minutes for the mess to get cleaned up. The 53 km journey took 2hours and we finally arrived to Moni.

We grabbed a beer and enjoyed sitting on the terrace as it was not very warm and the breeze was nice. The next day we went for a walk to see the waterfall and maybe to do some jungle trekking, however after seeing the bamboo bridge I was too scared and did not want to cross so we had to turn back and continue our journey to the next village. We were walking without having any idea where were going and after 2 hours walk we ended in some village and we grabbed a cold coca-cola there. We return back to the lodge and the next day we rented a motorbike as to see kelimutu park and its three crater lakes that change their colours due to the ongoing volcanic activity. We were told the best is to see them early in the morning when sun is coming up and in the evening for the sunset so we woke at 4.30 in the morning and sat on the motorbike and slowly drove to the Kelimutu national park.

Our surprise started when we arrived as it was too foggy so we could not see for 20m so we had to wait till 7.30 when the sky looked bit better and we walked to view point that was on the top of a ridge separating the lakes. We were amazed by the lake colours and due to changing of visibility the colours were different shades all the time. Oh, it was completely stunning. One was dark green, another colour of black coffee and the last was turquoise. We could not stop smiling and we stayed on the top for few hours enjoying the views. Slowly we decided to go back to do some photo stops. Next day we were doing simply nothing- sleeping a lot and eating potato croquets.

We stayed in Moni 4 nights but it was 2 nights too much. If we did it again the next time it would be a trip from Ende either on a bike or by car. The village is overpriced with nothing in it.

Next – Rinca Island - to see the komodo dragons.
