What I did
45th Parallel

We made good time heading north.  US-23 quickly merged with I-75 for awhile before diverging east to Oscoda and Alpena.  We stayed on I-75 and headed for the Mackinac Bridge.  Traffic started thinning out as soon as we got north of Houghton Lake.  We crossed the 45th parallel just south of Gaylord, MI which put us exactly halfway between the North Pole and the Equator.

We decided to gas up in Mackinac City and take a short break before crossing the bridge and making the final run for Sault Saint Marie.  I took the opportunity to mount a new camera I had purchased (a Contour ROAM2) on a handlebar mount with the intention of filming the bridge crossing.  We finished our break and headed for the bridge.
