The impromptu layover in Moncton turns out to be just what I needed.  After my nap I spend the rest of Tuesday vegged out on the couch recuperating from the damage done by the sketchy lobster roll I ate in Calais.  I get a good night's sleep that night and wake up on Wednesday feeling much better.

Unfortunately, however, my unexpected layover in Moncton has screwed up my schedule.  I am now too close to Halifax to warrant a ride there and a night's stay.  If I do that I will not only waste most of Wednesday as a travel day, I will be in Halifax on Thursday morning and have only 3 days before I have to be back in Detroit to return to work on Monday morning. I really want to be back in Detroit Saturday night so that I have a day to decompress before going back to work.

Halifax to Detroit is about 1400 miles if I go the short route through Toronto.  Do-able, but I want to clock all my miles on the Trans-Canada which means coming home to Detroit through Sudbury and Sault Ste Marie, a distance of about 2800 kilometers (1,740 miles) from Halifax.  Still do-able, but that means riding hard three days in a row after a rough couple of days and not having a day off before returning to work.

Looking at the map, I decide to skip Halifax and instead go all the way to the end of Prince Edward Island (PEI) before turning around and coming back through Moncton to Fredericton, a total distance of about 670 kilometers. That way I can ride the Confederate Bridge to PEI and also check Nova Scotia off my list since I can take the ferry from Wood Islands, PEI to Caribou, NS. Assuming I can catch the ferry at the right time, I am all set.

With my new route plan in my head, I check out of the hotel, gas up, buy some bottles of water and a couple protein bars and head out to PEI.
