Leaving Belfast, ME I cruised north on US-1 towards Calais. The scenery was great, the weather was great and the road was smooth. Riding into Bucksport, I came across the Penobscot Narrows bridge and stopped to take a couple pictures before continuing through the town.
On the other side of Bucksport, traffic started to get really heavy. I couldn't understand why until I got to Ellsworth and realized that I had been on the main route to Bar Harbor (or as people from Michigan hear "Bah Hahbah") and Acadia National Park. As soon as I got past Ellsworth and the turnoff to US-3 the traffic dropped to almost zero. There were times I was the only person on the road coming or going. I pushed hard for Calais as I was losing daylight and didn't relish the thought of riding the twisties of US-1 along the coast in the dark.
