Day One of my Trans-Canada motorcycle trip.  My main goal was to research my family's genealogy at the Maine State Archives in Augusta, ME. According to family members, my dad's dad was from Bangor, ME.  As the archives are not open on the weekends I didn't have to be in Augusta until Monday morning. I chose to leave home Saturday about noon and stop off in Niagara Falls (Canadian side) Saturday night.

I live in the Detroit area and chose to cross into Canada via the Ambassador Bridge to Windsor despite Google Maps assuring me that the Blue Water Bridge to Sarnia was shorter.  I wanted to be across into Canada as soon as possible instead of traveling through Detroit to Port Huron so I chose the Windsor crossing.  I crossed over about 11:30 AM on Saturday and started my ride to Niagara Falls via the 401.

It was a nice, easy ride through Ontario farm country.  Nothing spectacular but nothing bad, either.  Ontario police were out in force so I made sure to maintain speed as all of the signage is in Km/h and my Harley only has M/h on its speedometer.  I followed the Queen Elizabeth highway into Niagara Falls to the Best Western Fallsview on Fallsview Blvd. The ride in was nice as the QE follows the water.  I was surprised by the number of wineries in the area...I will have to go back and check them out someday.  The hotel was easy to find and I got there a little before 6 PM Saturday night.  Total miles on Saturday:  253. Total trip miles: 253.
