Where I stayed
After so many days in the big cities and their set piece attractions, it was a change to get out into the countryside. So, with a car hired for the day, it was away into the Sierra Nevada, to the villages of Pampaneira (great for a coffee stop), Bubion, and Capileira, where a small restaurant in the main square provided an excellent lunch.
With plenty of daylight left, there was time to go south, to get a taste of the Andalusian coastline. The towns of Salobrens, Almunecar, and Nerja were disappointing, being overbuilt with typical Mediterranean seaside development. On the other hand, the village of Maro, just to the East of Nerja, was a pleasant surprise: small, quiet, modestly developed, with agriculture still very much in evidence, it was a good place to take a break. And from Maro, the drive back East along the N 340 has some fine views of the coastline until reaching the highway for the return trip to Granada.
