We slept until late, took our time over breakfast, and left the campsite about noon. At the village we had a look in the gift shop and the girls there wanted to chat to us.  And at Glacier Point the girls in the tourist shop wanted to talk to us.  It seemed guys with British accents were something of a novelty in this area.  While at Glacier Point we listened to a talk being given by a naturalist and had a look around the area.  Then it was time to leave the park; we drove out on a very twisty mountain road.  We stopped at Sonora for supper and enjoyed watching Dick spend his money!

Continuing, the road was still very twisty.  The car suffered brake fade (it was from the era of drum brakes), so we cut across to the freeway and North into Sacramento.  We planned to visit California Highways Department to talk about road and bridge construction (it was an idea to include something relevant to our studies in the trip).  But not finding anywhere there to sleep we decided to give the visit a miss and continued on to a rest area some 30 miles North of Sacramento.  It was a very noisy place to sleep, being in the fork of the freeway and its on-ramp, and adjacent to a railway.  But when dead tired sleep comes easily.
