At the park information centre we took advice and made a plan for the visit. After writing and sending a stack of post cards we returned the car to the car park and set off on a hike to the Vernal Falls. We swam in the Emerald Pool above the waterfall, John ripping his trunks sliding on the rocks, and sunbathed before walking further upstream to the bottom of Nevada Falls for more swimming.
Then it was a slow walk back to the campsite for dinner and wine. After dinner we went to the village. There were some girls there who wanted to chat to us, but the village was a bit dead. At the lodge the bar was empty, so we returned to the campsite to sleep. It was a glorious day, although on arrival at the campsite we got caught for a $3 camping fee.
