It was another early start in preparation for a long day. Heading East we drove to Little Colorado, had breakfast at Fred Harvey at Cameron, and had a look at the beautiful Painted Desert and an Indian Reservation.  At Page there were churches to visit, then it was on to Lake Glen for a cooling swim.

Crossing into Utah, we visited a dinosaur park, which turned out to be a disappointment and possibly fraudulent, on the way to Zion Park.  With only 2 hours to see this wonder of nature it was hardly a fair viewing, but it was intended as a sample and to return at some date in the future to see it properly, yet to be fulfilled.

As darkness fell, we started the drive to Las Vegas.  The glow in the sky from the city could be seen from miles away, long before the city itself came into view.  We searched for a motel based on price, and found one off the Strip for $14.

At 0200 in the morning, after a quick shower, we headed on to the Strip to find out what Las Vegas was all about.  It's an unreal place, an illusion of wealth and opulence, but no doubt real enough for the owners of those fancy hotels and casinos.  But if you look like you are gambling, and we did by using coupons and coins picked up free from the motel desk, then the casinos happily served complimentary drinks and food.  At the Sahara we saw a show for just $1.20 each.  This was followed by a walk along the Strip and back to the motel, arriving at 0600, just as the sun was rising.
