Where I stayed
It was the last day of this driving tour, which meant returning to the Vancouver area along Route 99. After another black bear sighting not far out of Whistler, the road descended to Squamish where breakfast at a Tim Horton was attempted – it was a pretty horrible experience.
As it follows the coast, the road is spectacular. At Porteau Cove, a disused jetty allows pretty views of the Sound and its wildlife. Then it's into the suburbs of Vancouver – and it’s some very up market territory. The Salmon House, nestled on the hill in amongst the affluent properties, provided an excellent lunch that lived up to its reputation for good food at a surprisingly reasonable price.
Continuing on Route 99, it was over Lion Bridge, through Stanley Park, and into the mayhem of the Vancouver downtown traffic. Despite the lack of coherent direction signs, the way to Richmond was eventually found, taking in Grenville Street with its magnificent properties that in their heyday before the road was choked with traffic must have been the place to live in Vancouver.
After checking in at the Executive Express Inn once again, the car was returned to Enterprise, but not without an argument over the price. It became obvious why there was no email at the time of booking confirming the price.
Total driven today: 142 Km.
Total of whole round trip driven: 3,526 km.
