(Covington LA, Saturday, February 17, 2007)-Carlo Ditta's spacious house rests in a semi-rural subdivision outside of Covington, just a few miles from the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. Whwen Dr D and I arise rather late in the morning, happily rested and ravenous for breakfast, our host is already engulfed in a raging episode of the Homeowner's Blues. The water heater on the second floor has gone kaput and must be replaced at once, so Carlo and his pal Vern, a bass player and plumber, are scoping out the job at hand while we rustle up something to eat and put on the coffee pot.

Our intention was to combine a welcome visit to the country with an opportunity to cut a couple of tunes in Carlo's studio in what used to be a garage next to the house, but the water heater replacement activity takes all afternoon and well into the evening, so once the heat is on and the water is flowing we all relax and enjoy a blissful evening of doing nothing.

Sunday morning brings another vast problem when there's no running water and a broken water pump is found to be the cause. There's no relief because it's the Sunday morning of Mardi Gras weekend and nothing can be done until tomorrow. By the time that conclusion is reached, however, it's time for Dorothy and me to go back across the lake and get ready for Indian practice. We'll have to do the long-awaited Orleans Records recording project the next time around. Right now it's Mardi Gras Time...time to get out in the streets and play!
