Well looks like I need to actually take a photography class because almost all my cavern pictures came out rotten!  I'm so torked because Carlsbad Caverns is Awesome!  I've been to many other caves in California, Oregon, and Arizona, but Carlsbad beats them all for sheer size and volume.  Other caves have more unusual formations (speleothems) but this sucker is gigantic!  I salvaged a handful of pics, so hopefully you get a basic idea.  Too bad this place is litteraly in the middle of nowhere.  I tried to get there on the same day I went to White Sands but didn't figure on the big mountain range in between them.  DOH!

During the summer months, the caverns have the added bonus of a ginormous pack (flock?) of Mexican Free-Tail Bats that put on a spectacular swarm every evening on there way out for supper.

As I said, there is a mountain range between Alamogordo and Carlsbad.  The old JQ Mobile had a hard time chugging it's way up at 45 mph.  "But what did you find at the top you say?"  A winter wonderland!  I have some video but I'm having problems converting it for the web.  I will make an entry for all my videos soon for all the places up to that point so you can see some of the fun in action!

On my way back I plan to spend some time at Guadalupe Mountains National Park which is just across the boarder (35 miles) in Texas and also Big Bend National Park which is in West Texas on the border of Mexico so stay tuned for updates on the flip side.

Now on to San Antonio!
