The next chapter...
We caught the train from Florence to Siena this morning at about midday. It was an hour and a half on the train and we chatted to some New Yorkers for most of the trip. Looked at each other's photos and gave each other tips on where to (or not to) visit. We finally arrived at the Siena station and got talking to an Aussie girl from Melbourne who has been travelling Europe for six months. We got some more tips and it was good to hear an Aussie accent again :) I was talking to one of the locals on the bus and they thought that someone speaking Italian with an Australian accent was hilarious!
We caught the bus from the hostel into the centre of town. It's a medieval gothic city with big walls for defence and gothic architecture, very impressive. Somehow we stumbled on a castle and wandered inside to find the annual chefs of Siena meeting. We gatecrashed the party by slipping through the gates and there was just about every type of Tuscan food you can think of on offer!! I don't think we will eat like that for a long time.
Unfortunately the buses stop at 8:20pm so we had to come back to the hostel early. Just killing time now at the hostel. I think Neill has gone to bed already! I'm half watching Back to the Future 2 but it's all in Italian... Great Scott!!
Bye for now,
John
