Here we go again...Today we took it pretty easy. Caught the bus into the city centre and wandered around, a lot! I think I will come home skinny at this rate, even despite the pizza and pasta. Gelato is so good over here but expensive, 5 euros (about 8 AUD) for a medium sized cup, or 10 euros if you want to sit down at the table to eat it! I recomend the ananas (pineapple) flavour. Found a few souvenirs around the place but still haven't booked our tickets for the museums yet. Will probably spend another day or two in Florence then move on to the medieval cities Siena, Pisa, Lucca & San Gimignano.

The highlight today was probably climbing the dome of the cathedral of Santa Maria, not for the faint hearted (see the photos). It takes 463 stairs to get to the top and we were pretty exhausted at the end. It's mostly a steep, tight winding staircase and you get quite dizzy on the way down. a great view from the top though.

Spent some time tonight browsing the dodgy markets and sitting outside the cathedral soaking up the atmosphere. I think I prefer Florence much more than Rome. It's different, much more peaceful and lots of gardens. Nowhere near as busy either.

Neill is waiting for the net so time to upload some photos and have a shower.

Ciao,
John
