Where I stayed
It was a long and mostly wet drive from Rotorua to Wellington. It was pouring with rain in Wellington and a stiff breeze drove the rain. It was not warm! We easily found our hotel, which is right on the harbor not far from the ferry. As our main purpose in staying in Wellington was to be up early to catch the ferry to Picton on the South Island, it mattered little that the weather was bad. What little interest we had in seeing Wellington was evaporated by the lousy weather. We contented ourselves with finding some food and going to bed.
Up early the next day to catch the ferry. The crossing is reputed to be one of the roughest in the world but for us it was very calm all the way. However, it was very cold! There was no heating on the ship, a large car ferry built in Holland, so there was almost nowhere to get warm. One woman we talked to was sitting in a lounge in her anorak and with gloves on. It takes 3 hours to cross and I am sure Queen Charlotte Sound is beautiful when the sun shines but it was uniformly gloomy, with grey skies all the way to Picton.
We did not hang about in Picton but drove off to our B&B in Blenheim with the skies beginning to brighten but still cool.

Pity about the weather - same here - all looks fantastic - I see they do YHA?
Hi guys... it is worse in Chicago. Cold and Grey and 10 inches of snow are anticipated for Monday night and Tuesday. Washington got 24 inches. But of course here we have heat all the time... Talk to you soon.
Thanks for including me on your travel log. You are both no novices to weather of all kinds...so enjoy. Your written descriptions are great, John, and Joan, the pictures are representative of your usual excellence.
