Our plan for today was to visit the Perugina chocolate factory in Perugia. Our information said that they ran both Italian and English tours, and that they opened at 9am. At 9.05am Carmen rang them to enquire as to whether or not there would be an English tour today, and was told it would be at 11am. That gave us an hour to get up (we were only stirring at that stage), shower, breakfast, and be on the road.
We made it to the factory with 5 minutes to spare, and were greeted by plates of chocolates to try. A bit early, but nevertheless we managed to sample a few products before heading off to watch a video. It was about the history of the company, and how chocolate is made, and was very informative. Then we spent nearly half an hour wandering through the factory, amazed at how big and well organized it was. They turn out millions of pieces of chocolates and other confectionery items every day. The emphasis at this time of the year is, of course, easter eggs, and did we see a few of them!
Because it was still quite early we drove over the Arezzo, mainly to find the railway station for tomorrow, but also to have a look at the town. Having easily found the station, and a carpark right next to it, we walked in to the center of town. Once again, it was quite old, and the main shopping area very quaint, with many different types of shop. There were many shoe shops which kept Carmen and Robyn busy, while even Pete tried to buy a pair of loafers.
