We flew into Heathrow at around 5am, and it was cold and miserable. Hardly surprising, given that it is winter, and they have had massive snowstorms and blizzards over here.

Carmen was waiting for us, with a great big smile on her face, despite the early hour. After picking up a hire car we followed her to Beckenham, where she and Pete live.

Not wanting to miss an opportunity, I rang for service at the local church, St George's Parish Church, which has a nice ring of 10 bells. Nicholas and I will ring there on Christmas Day if all goes well.

After catching up with Carmen and Pete, we thought we might as well do something to stay awake, so we all took a drive down south into rural Kent. We visited a winery, and were pleasantly surprised to taste nice English wine! Lunch was at a traditional pub, where the food was substantial, and the beer was not cold!

The snow from the previous week was still very much in evidence, so the temperature has obviously not been far above zero. We saw our first frozen pond whiost walking around the grounds of a castle.

I have never looked so much to going to bed. We crashed very early and were asleep in an instant.
