Hello Again

Boston is in the north east of the US.  Massachusetts is one of the so called New England states -Maine being another one. (Randy's area of expertise so I hope I am correct) A lot of early history up here - Paul Revere, Boston Tea Party etc.   One of the first things we noticed were the leafy tree lined streets and the beautiful houses - not so much opulent but very much with "character".  The pics will show what I mean.  Sunday morning Helen and I took a walk around the neighbourhood, including Jamacia Pond - really a biggish lake.  Saw a few squirrels but no raccoons yet!  (Not that I expected them there)

Today Monday was Rockport day, a train trip into Boston and then another up the coast to Rockport about an hour or so.  An old town with the same quaint buildings somebeing built in the 1700's would you believe,  and a fishing background.  Well known for its seafood -lobster and clam chowder, we had both.  The  place selling lobsters as doing a roaring trade - he had live ones in tanks as you walk in, and cooks them on the spot, serving them with melted butter. A bit messy but tasty.

Many of the shops were in an area called Bearskin Neck.  See photo of the sign for a story. The shop entry is right on the narrow street.  Most have shingles on the roof and many have them on the walls.

It is a sizable town, bigger than New Norfolk I think.  I wonder if there is a congregation here?  Lots of galleries and souvenir shops of course, and eating houses.

On the way back we saw a couple with a lit stand at the railway station and stopped for a chat.

Well thats it for Rockport.  Tomorrow we go into the CBD, so there should not bo too much to write about.  It is supposed to rain.. So far it has been fine but a bit muggy about 77F.  Thursday am we are on the  train for Washington DC.  Convention week is getting closer!  Catch you later.

Greetings   John and Helen
