For starters, I arrived early at Zion NP. I'll let the photos do the talking, though no two dimensional picture could possibly capture the the depth of the scenes in our national parks or elicit the emotional responses that come from actually being there.
Next I headed for Bryce Canyon NP. I wasn't expecting too much because a woman at the hotel last night said she hadn't seen much there, possibly because there was still a lot of snow on the ground. Well, she evidently didn't know that the main road through the park doesn't have any of the major views the park has to offer. You have to take the side roads to the overlooks.
So, when I got to the first overlook my jaw literally dropped and I started to laugh with joy. Having seen pictures of Bryce in the past didn't prepare me for the experience I was having. For those of you who have not as yet been to Bryce, I hope my photos at least cause you to move Bryce Canyon NP up a few places on your personal bucket list. It's worth it.
In my fifty or so years of passion for the road I have been on many, including my present home in western North Carolina, that rival Utah's SR12 for driving fun. But none could stand up to the incredible variety and majesty of the surrounding scenery. The drive from Escalante to Torrey, Utah, is one I will do again someday.
