Our last weeks in Melbourne were really good. We mainly just stayed around Ben and Laila's place, being unemployed, sleeping in, going walking, recovering from our illnesses, drinking fine ales and generally making nuisances of ourselves. It mst be said though that Ben and Laila were excellent hosts and it was a real pleasure to stay with them at their beautiful home.

Towards the end of our time there, we went to the Mountain Goat brewery for Ben's Birthday. Well, I really did wonder if I had died and gone to heaven; basically, it's a nice enough bar... actually in a brewery!!!!!!! The beer there is fantastic and the best thing is you are 100% sure they will never run out of the beautiful Hightail Ale at the Bar! The next day was Ben's actual birthday and heroically he decided that the best thing to do would be to go to a Cider Farm way out in the country. The cider was delicious and we had a great day. There was one incident that shamed me though. To get into the spirit of West Country Cider drinking, the farm owner had enlisted a buch of Morris Dancers from England to come over. I was not pleased to have to explain that, yes, Morris Dancing is an English tradition and yes, these sinister looking people with bells on their legs and chickens on their heads were my countrymen!

After leaving the cider farm we were driven back via, wait for it, Ramsay Street! It was so weird seeing all the houses that are always on the show. It is way smaller than it looks and people actually live there. The street was packed full of English tourists and they had a big official Neighbours tour bus who had brought along a Ramsy Street sign (it's called something else in real life, though i have no recollection of what. I had a great laugh when Tamsin tried to take a picture of the Robinson house and this very backwards looking woman started doing a dance for her - I think Tamsin will treasure that picture forever! That evening we went over to Ben's friends house for a Thai takeaway, which was very nice, as were all Ben and Laila's friends who made us feel very welcome and we had a very nice time!

The awful thing with writing this journal is, that i have the worst memory, that is why Tamsin does a lot of it, left to me it would be a very short journal indeed (ie. We did some... er, stuff). So there is probably a lot i have missed out on. So in my head, after this we went back to the city, ready to catch our flight to Cairns the next day.

The actual flight was pretty dull, except for the landing! There were really strong winds coming into Cairns so the Plane was rocking like a three legged dog as we came into land. I've discovered on this trip that I'm actually not a nervous flyer at all, but on this occasion I was very glad when we touched down safely. SO check out the next entry for Cairns itself...
