Our last hours in Singapore:

We were up at ten and went to eat at a cool Asian cafe called McDonald's. I was daring and went for the local speciality a "Big Mac" quite nice but a bit spicy to be honest.
After eating and packing we got the Mrt to the airport around 5 hours ahead of our flight. It was the perfect opportunity to abuse the free email privilidges at the airport, which we of course did.

The flight to Bali was a very quick one and two hours later we would be stepping out Denpasar airport which, and i don't think even the Balinese would argue here, was a step down from Singapore airport. One of the airport porters helped us with our bag - it is supposed to be a 2000 rupiah tip if they do this - I handed over a 50000 in my confusion, which he quickly pocketed! It was our first taste of how many people are out to get money from you in Bali. In fairness though it is still only about 2 quid.

We were met by our STA rep called Roy who bundled us into the back of a little rascal like Mitsubishi with blacked out windows. As we sped through the streets of Bali it was hard to shake the feeling that we were going to be kidnapped and killed. Thankfully Roy was a stand up guy and we escaped not only with our lives but with a plush hotel room and some thought provoking literature about Bali. Then a guy easily 10 feet tall, and wearing a skirt, took our stuff to our room and we collapsed. Tamsin was a very happy girl as there were no Mozzies - woo hoo!

Our first impressions of Bali were quite scary as the streets are just bonkers, with dogs all over and tons of people on scooters whose only concession to the rules of the road was to beep as they razzed round corners!
