Liebe Begleiter/in, Dear Companions,
Our last day in Berlin.  Seemed to go by so quickly; I cannot believe we have already spent almost 6 days here.  Today we visited the "Story of Berlin" museum- a privately owned exhibition of the city's history.  I would guess that if you are a fan of seeing actual historical artifacts rather than multi-media presentations of history; the Stadt Museums Berlin would be a better choice but unfortunately we did not visit that during this trip.  Even so, the story of Berlin was interesting.  We took a tour through an underground bunker that was built as part of a parking stucture in the mid 70s for civil defense against the atomic bomb. Made you think...what were we thinking then about suriving the A-Bomb?  The bunker was supposed to hold 3600 people but realistially would have probably been more suited for a third of that and even then only for 2 weeks.  Brought those memories of the cold war back. Funny, we don't think about that anymore even though the threat has not truly disappeared just because the USSR and USA are no longer antagonists (we have new enemies now, huh?)...But, we are on vacation, so despite Jerry's attempt at serious conversation, I am ignoring all worries-thus our next stop was KaDeWe, a prestigious department store parralel to Harrod's or maybe the original Bloomingdale's in NYC.  While Jerry railed how our overly consumptive society was leading us down the path of destruction, I was also thinking that it would be cool to actually be able to fashion an ongoing and entire wardrobe from a store like this (although truly I do agree with Jerry and am in no way that fashion self-conscious nor believe in an overly consumerist society).  Was fun to walk around and wonder whether we should purchase that 400 Euro belt or if 100 Euros was really a deal on a shirt.
Afterward, we rode the S-Bahn around the city which made for a nice tour around the old East Berlin and West Berlin surroundings.
We are eating WAY too much, but still stopped at the little Netto Discount supermarket near our apartment and bought some bratwurst which I cooked for dinner with nice rolls and of course dark beer for me.  Packing and cleaning up so we can leave tomorrow for Prague. Just when we had learned the public transport system here...and we also now have to figure out our money in Czech Krona rather than Euros, I am not good at math so an exchange rate of 18,5 Krona to 1 US dollar will not be easy for me.  At least with Euros, I just have to tack on about a third more to think in my head how many dollars it is costing me.  More to follow tomorrow

Schoenen Nacht!

Need a new purse for spring. Any color will do, and a pair of shoes too if you can work it out. Thanks! Size 8.5
Will send a purchase order your way.

I never worry about eating too much when traveling since I usually walk it off. I'd love to go to Berlin one day. It's nice you stayed long enough to really know your way around! Double decker bus sounds like a great way to get around!
