Anita and John next board a train from the scary Termini station in Rome, and get off in the even scarier Centrale station in Napoli.  Our duo huddle together for safety, and make it to their guest-house.  Hopefully the wonderful Naples they have heard of will open up away from the station.

more to come...

SHE SAID:

We had heard that Napoli was a little sketchier than Rome, and we saw that as soon as we left the train stn.  We tried to get back to our hotel before dark, and luckily we didn't come across anything (we heard later that another Canadian from Vancouver witnessed a purse snatching attempt from 2 guys on a motorbike). Nevertheless, Naples proved to be interesting and appealing once we were out and about, though the traffic craziness and the motorbikes on the sidewalk reminded us of Vietnam.

PEOPLE
Here, everyone didn't seem as overly chic and what appeared to be perfectly dressed like they were in Rome. So with our older and semi unfashionable travel clothes, we fit in slightly better. We did find more beggars here, but most looked great...fashionable, clean, attractive.
We met some great people in our guesthouse, Canadians and Americans. In the meantime, we heard yelling out of our window constantly...it sounded like a family who were just "talking" and living life on a regular day :)

MT. VESUVIUS
Due to volcanic eruptions of Mt. Vesuvius in 79AD, we were able to see crazily preserved towns that were originally wiped out and covered by volcanic matter or ash. It was a short trip to see Pompeii and Herculaneum...very neat, and one of the highlights here! You can still see the mountain in the distance...just laughing down at us all.
