FROM Quenca we traveled to the nearby Inca ruin of Ingapirca, the most famous in Ecuador.
The complex has a series of shallow terraces, and an impressive oval-shaped stone cut sun temple at the centre.
There is also an interesting museum full of artifacts collected at the site.
We were forced into staying at an attractive but expensive hotel, as the opposition in the tiny village looked unsavoury and even slightly unsafe.
After a comfortable but slightly strange night's stay (we were the only guests) we set off northwards.

Ingapirca Inn
While we didn't stay there, we did eat there...we were the only guests, also! It was strange, it was like a husband and wife with their small child working there. I almost felt like I was eating at someone's home! I guess this is THE place to go if you want to avoid the crowds! It is a beautiful, humble area, not very well known outside of Ecuador.
