Robby stayed at the hotel in the afternoon to watch USA and Germany play. I did my husbandly duties and went sightseeing with the women.
Although I'm starting to enjoy watching soccer and the intricacies of the game, the level of officiating in the game is enough to turn me off to the sport as a spectator. In the US, we're too obsessed with enforcing the rules and fair play so our sports add more officials, use video replays, and even give coaches the right to review plays. I've come to the conclusion that poor officiating and cheating are part of the game, used to help whip up the frenzy of the fans. It seems to work too.
