Lake Charles is a beautiful old city established by French settlers in the 1760's. The lake itself seems to serve as the hub of the city.  Even the well appointed visitor’s center is on the lake.  As we drove through to look at the historical area, there were several events happening along the banks of the lake.  You can see by the age of the trees how very old the homes must be.

After a short tour of Lake Charles we headed northeast to the little town of Kinder and what is advertised as "Louisiana’s Best Bet!" the Coushatta Casino Resort.  Wow, I couldn’t believe we were at a casino.  It sure is a far cry than our stay in the Isle of Capri parking lot.  The photos will tell the story.

We did a little gambling here, not much, and had a nice dinner out at a little local restaurant, Faustos Family Restaurant.  I had the chicken and sausage gumbo, way too much for me, but quite tasty.  John had the fish platter and was very pleased.  Besides the variety of fish (catfish, crawfish, shrimp) there was coleslaw, beans and a delicious Cajun roll.  It was very yummy.

We took a little drive around their small community and the countryside (who’d think we’d still enjoy just driving?).  We started to realize just how much water there was everywhere.  It is very strange and “No, John, I do not want to get out and take a walk!”
