Leaving Lubbock and heading southeast, this will be our last day in West Texas.  We are going to San Angelo, just because...  We are out of the flat-lands now and in what must be the beginning of the foothills, if they have those here.  The manzanita bushes are growing into trees.  The roads have narrowed with the onset of plants and trees.

San Angelo is an inviting little city of about 100,000, settled after Fort Concho was built to protect the frontier settlers.  The Concho River winds through town, with O.C. Fisher Reservoir at the north end and Lake Nasworthy on the south.  We stayed at an RV Park on Lake Nasworthy that was thick with some type of oak trees (I think).  With the green grass and trees, next to the full lake, it was enchanting.  Strange though, because the reservoir and the river were almost dry.

After a visit to the chamber of commerce we explored town and found the restored fort.  It was closed for the day, but it had a lot of buildings that would have been interesting to tour, like two big blocks full.  We went into a fantastic mercantile shop in the old part of town that was filled to the brim with all the goodies a professional shopper could handle in a single day.  Too bad John wasn't in the mood to linger too long.

We checked out some houses for sale built along the lakefront.  After dinner we had a great walk around this huge park in the woods and enjoyed a quiet night looking out on the water.

Thank you, Earl. It is so nice to hear from you. I am 8 days behind in my blog and we are on our return trip home. I hope we can stretch this out a bit, as I'm not in any hurry to get home. We are in Shreveport, LA, tonight. Give LaNell a hug for me. Love you
