I mean wow.
Chris and Martin started the Sydney winter festival which was my first experience of the Christmas Markets.. Now I can fully appreciate what it is actually like.
It's most of the city center, packed with people and stores. So packed u can hardly walk through. Like a big gig in freezing cold weather with stores of all kinda of awesome food, ranging from fondue to wursts; and drinks!!
All different kids of gluewine, with rum, white wine, with elderflowers, spices, omg!!
Overall prices are very reasonable, well for a Sydney sider it's down right cheap at times
A Currywurst is ~€3,50, a steak is €5, gluewine is a out €6 but u get €2,50 back when u return the cup. You are welcome to take it as a souvenir if u forfeit the deposit.
I ate like a pig.
I get tipsy after one but they are delicious!! And then there are choirs, gifts shops, merry-go-round rides...
It spans the whole of the city square down towards the river. Very busy in the middle near the merry go round, where the raclette and fondue places are. At the exit for the U5, it's nearly impossible to get out, with live jazz band and smells of BBQ and gluewine.
Essentially people meet up with friends and hang out in a certain area. So there are great packs of static mass of humanities. There is no traffic management... U just push through people and they are very happy to let u. People are very happy and helpful.
I found it best to head down towards the river as they have some big BBQ tents and gluewine stores. It's easier to move down there because the crowd spills onto the river side somewhat.
I have been there every night and all go again tonight for sure. I should really check out some other stuff too, like museums and operas etc.
// NOTE: i wrote this half jet lagged at 530am in the morning. So apologies for the grammar/prose, but the gist is the same. Christmass Markets are AWESOME!
