We went back and forth about how to get up to Barcelona. First we thought train. Then we thought it would be faster by plane. Then we talked about a night train to save money on a hotel. Then we found out the night train doesn't run. We settled on a high speed train. It only takes 4 hours.

We would start the trip in Cordoba. To fly we would have to get to Sevilla. That is an hour by train. We would have to get to Sevilla with enough time to get to the airport and check in. That is another hour or more. Than the hour flight. So that is at least 3 hours. It could easily be 4 hours. Why not take the high speed train? We might be able to see some of the country side as we speed by.

I tried to buy tickets on line at www.renfe.com. First my credit card was blocked. Then my bank called and said they blocked it. I tried again. It still didn't go through. I did a search to see if there was an American agent to buy tickets from. I found a website that talked about this very issue, www.seat61.com. He mentioned that a company did just what I wanted, www.pentabax.com. I got the tickets we wanted very easily.

One thing I learned on the Renfe site is that the United States follows Spain in the pull down on the Spanish website [espana and estados unidos].
