Today we all met once again to observe one of the biblically mandated annual high days. Since our discussions the evening before had gone rather late, we met in the early afternoon. It was a beautiful day: deep blue sky, and bright white clouds above the lush green fields of sugarcane that surround the Prodigues' home.

We sang hymns together and I gave a sermon on the topic of various dimensions to the annual biblical festivals which contain imagery from the agricultural harvests in Israel, some of which are deeply rooted in particular historic events and all of which have links with events prophesied in the Bible for times yet to come.

After the service we took a group photo and then talked together for several more hours over coffee and chocolate. We compared some of our childhood experiences, what it was like to grow up in Mauritius in a large family, and what my childhood was like. They spoke of the freedom they had as children to range far roaming the sugarcane fields, hunting small game and fishing in rivers. We compared when we got our first televisions and what programs we remembered. We talked of close calls we had as children and the probability of divine intervention and protection. Again it was very pleasant conversation which continued until after sunset.

Before heading back to my hotel for the last time, I shook hands all around and wished everyone well. We’re thankful we can keep in touch by virtually instantaneous electronic means now, so the physical separations are easier to manage than they would have been not so many years ago. Then I drove back through the twilight in the cane fields to the highway and finally back to Quatre Bornes. I should have a good night’s sleep before starting my long day’s travel tomorrow to Bujumbura.

Thanks again, Joel, for the group photo and comments about your time with the brethren. We're happy to be "acquainted" with them through your blog and to glimpse some of the things we have in common.

Thanks for keeping the blog Joel. These children of our same Father do not seem so far away when we can see pictures, hear of conversations and know more of their struggles with shifting governments and things like that. Safe travels, Earl
