I drove away from the hotel at 09:30 leaving me an hour to reach Rivière des anguilles where the Prodigues live. There was a small group for services, one member was ill, one apparently traveling, and one doesn't get out much anymore because of age. So we were 8 for services. After singing hymns and after an opening prayer, we sat around the dining room table for the sermon and I spoke again on blessings we receive from participating in the life of the Church.

Then we fellowshipped over lunch: fried rice, chicken curry, barbecued chicken, onions and cucumber and a choice of soft drinks. I was happy to learn that the Prodigues have been careful with their finances over the years and have just been able to purchase their first car, a small Toyota model that is not sold in the US.

We talked about many things, such as current world events and the connections with prophecy, the social and religious situation in Mauritius, the situation on nearby islands and so on. It was very interesting.  We sat on the porch for a while too, enjoying the breeze and the views of the ocean a few miles distant. One man had to leave for home t this point.

We moved inside to have our Q&A session. The members here were well-informed about the overall issues. They asked about details of certain questions and I gave a chronological overview of the key events and decisions that led to where we are now, and they asked follow-up questions. They seemed satisfied and reassured by the information I was able to provide. A pastor from our previous association has announced he will be visiting in a few weeks, so they’ll have to decide how they wish to handle that.

I told them to feel free to follow-up over e-mail or Skype if they thought of any more questions, and that I was at their disposal to help as they made their decisions.  Then I showed a short PowerPoint presentation on the constitutive conference in Louisville from early January, when our new association was temporarily organized. They were encouraged to see faces and hear names they knew from long and faithful service.

I asked if I could take a photo for my travel blog, and explained that a photo did not represent a commitment of any kind and all present kindly agreed.

We finally parted company about 17:00 after spending about 7 pleasant hours together. I drove back to Quatre Bornes. I called the members who hadn’t come for the service, I only could reach one and he was sick enough that he couldn’t talk, his wife told me. He passed along to me that he'd give me a call if he felt up to a visit. I hope to be able to get together with the others tomorrowas well. Since I can only come through here once or twice a year, I look forward to seeing everyone if possible. I was also able to talk to my wife on Skype once again: toward the end of the day for me, at the beginning for her.

Seems like a long and loney trip without your wife when there are no friends around. Happy to know you got to eat and visit with friends on such a lovely place. I know you miss your family. Thank you for keeping us up to date. I read your blog to family that does not have a computer.

Hi Joel,
How nice that you had a pleasant, restful Sabbath in good company. You all had a peaceful setting for questions and answers. It is a blessing for the members to hear the words of encouragement you bring.

Regards,
Mary
